BBC News Scotland: Court overturns Scottish government's wind farm approval.
The Court of Session in Edinburgh made a landmark legal ruling on 17 February when it threw out the Wull Muir wind farm application in the Borders – for failing to consider the environmental implications of its grid connection. Key criticisms of the Wull Muir developer by the Court included: ‘inadequate handling of cumulative environmental effects of interdependent components’; ‘irrationality’; and ‘reliance on operational benefits without assessing the unassessed adverse impacts of the grid connection’. These devastating criticisms have massive implications for the Glen Lednock and Glentarken proposals, both of whose planning applications and Environmental Impact Assessments failed to consider the impact of the grid-connection infrastructure – which would have to cross miles of sensitive upland landscapes adjacent to the National Park and National Scenic Areas that are home to many species of birds of prey.
