CAMPAIGNERS CALL ON DEVELOPERS TO ABANDON PERTHSHIRE WIND FARM PLANS
Press release from Save Glen Lednock: not for publication until Thursday 16th April 2026
Campaigners against the controversial Glen Lednock and Glentarken wind farm plans – comprising 31 turbines up to 200 metres high [1] – have urged their developers to abandon the projects. In open letters to Low Carbon and SSE Renewables [2], Save Glen Lednock [3] calls on the two multi-national companies to withdraw, and thereby save Council Tax payers money which they say would be better spent on essential local services such as social care and rural libraries. The letter argues:
‘Both Perth and Kinross Council and the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park Authority have voted unanimously to object to your planning applications. Hundreds of members of the general public have also taken the time to object to proposals that would destroy the glens that they love. If you continue with these schemes your applications would potentially be decided by a long-winded Public Local Inquiry. But why should local communities have to dedicate their time and resources to continuing the campaign against these wind farms at an Inquiry, when the proposals are so flawed?’
The campaigners say that if Low Carbon and SSE do not withdraw, then the developers – and not Perth & Kinross Council – should pick up the cost of a Public Inquiry, Jen Newall of Save Glen Lednock commenting:
‘It is fundamentally unjust that the cost of a public inquiry should be placed on anyone other than the companies seeking planning permission for their own proposals. Our communities have come together in making a strong case against these two developments. Together with the objections from Perth and Kinross Council and all other statutory consultees, this should be enough to put a stop to their damaging plans.’
‘However, if Low Carbon and SSE do not drop their applications – and insist on going to a public inquiry – then we will call on our political representatives to ensure that these companies are made to cover all the costs of the inquiry. If they want the wind farms, they should pay – simple as that.’
Save Glen Lednock’s letter concludes with a strong commitment to continue its campaign which began in June last year:
‘We call on Low Carbon and SSE to withdraw your planning applications now – and save any further waste of public money and the needless diversion of community effort. Please be in no doubt. If you do not withdraw the proposed Glen Lednock/Glentarken development, we will continue to fight tooth and nail to stop these misguided proposals.’
